Book Craft

Hand made books - the craft of Bookmaking.

This is a most creative and satisfying craft. To some it can be a life long profession and to others a part time hobby.

Book craft, bookbinding, artists books, repair and restoration, conservation, the list goes on.

Within the field of Book Craft we find paper makers, printers, artists, calligraphers, marblers, fibre makers, photographers, book collectors, amateur and professional bookbinders.

The Association of Book Crafts (New Zealand) Inc. was founded some ten years ago to cater for many of the interests in various crafts as outlined above.

The name Book Crafts was chosen as it implies both traditional bookbinding and artists book making.

The aims and objectives of the Association are:

  • To promote, encourage and practise the arts and crafts associated with books.
  • To promote and support all facets of education and training in the field of book arts and crafts and related subjects.
  • To preserve the traditional bookbinding skills and maintain high standards of workmanship.
